In 2007, the Educaids network in Uganda started working together and in 2008, Educaids Uganda presented a proposal for linking & learning to the Educaids partners in the Netherlands. In order to build the capacities of individual organizations and to strengthen the network as a whole, Educaids started a ShareFrame traject in Uganda, with technical assistance of World Population Foundation (WPF). This project aims at developing, in a network, a Sexual development, Hiv/Aids and Reproductive health Education FRAMEwork for effective communication and interventions, based on the needs of young people.
The Intervention Mapping (IM) model will be used as a tool to develop a framework that is based on these needs. IM is one of the few models known, that can help in developing (and implementing) effective interventions through its theory- and evidence-based approach.
During a training/workshop held in Mukono, end May 2008, the Educaids partners focussed on intervention mapping as an approach to assess how the context determines behaviour regarding sexual and reproductive health. The partners attained an attitude of willingness to systematically plan and look beyond their usual way of working and usual approaches. Furthermore the Educaids partners agreed upon the usefulness to carry out a situational analysis/needs assessment (SA/NA) within their own contexts. The outcomes of the SA/NA were were expected to be supportive in the development of an evidence based SRH policy for individual organizations and the network as a whole. Partners agreed to start an intervention mapping process and in March 2009, a ShareFrame workshop was held in Lira to share the first findings on the SA/NA of the various organizations.
During a conference in May 2009, in Mukono, the Educaids partners presented their Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) workplans and policies, in order to formulate a joint policy framework on SRHR and activities for the Ugandan network.
The SRHR vision of Educaids Uganda is to form a network of experts in working with and empowering young people realize (and enjoy) quality SRHR. The common goal of the Educaids network is to strengthen the capacity of network members and conduct lobby and advocacy on both local and national level to contribute towards SRHR of young people.
The vision and common goal guided the compilation of an extensive list of possible network activities in the year 2010 for individual organizations and the network as a whole.
