Behaviour change approach

Educaids considers education as an effective way to promote the SRHR of young people. Although people may have understanding of the risks of unprotected sexual activity, they still may take the risk to engage in unsafe sexual relationships. In other words, knowledge alone not necessarily affects behaviour. Therefore, a diverse approach is needed to achieve behaviour change, in which we analyse why people act in a certain way.

The behaviour change theory has identified the following determinants that influence behaviour: knowledge, attitude, skills, risk perception, social influence and self-efficacy. The cultural, religious and societal context determines to what extent these determinants can effectively change behaviour. For the improvement of young peoples’ SRHR behaviour, Educaids aims to influence the above mentioned determinants of behaviour and -wherever possible- tries to change the context.
